Walk With MU

Walk With MU, Strijp-S, Eindhoven, The Netherlands
19 t/m 2021
These two Brabant-based composer/artists, Rob van Rijswijk and Jeroen Strijbos, have been creative partners of STRP for many years. In 2013 their contribution will premiere during the festival, but will be heard for a long time after as well. It is a tailor-made STRP composition for the entire Strijp S area, which can be permanently heard. But the composition will not cause any noise pollution because it can only be heard if you plug earphones into your iPhone.

It is controlled by GPS using the Walk With Me app developed by Strijbos and Van Rijswijk. The technology they have used has only recently become available. It allows them to appoint a certain sound clip/composition/lyric to a specific geographical location and to link all of these together to form a complete work. Users can listen to it, and to some extend dictate the piece themselves by choosing their own walking speed and the route they want to follow. All the elements have been connected loosely so that everyone can experience their own 'soundscape'.

MU zooms in on the hybrid here, now, and later of visual culture. MU is an adventurous guide to all art lovers with a keen interest in the energetic mix of design, fashion, music, architecture, and new media that contemporary art is. Attracting a wide audience, MU is a meeting place and inspirational breeding ground for creative Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and the world. Read all about this project
