With Proximity, we present a unique project combining music, space, and technology. We compose not only in terms of time, but also for a spatial sculpture specially designed for the deer park of Landgoed Oranjestein. In this project, we collaborate with singer-songwriter LUWTEN, who will perform live as a composer-performer. During the preparations, we create new musical material especially for Proximity, using loops, drones, field recordings, and electronic synths.
By combining sound, space, and interaction, Proximity creates a dialogue between people, our live-performed music, and the venue. The listening experience is shaped by how people perceive their surroundings, with 3D sound and visual elements. To make this possible, we are developing new software and an audio interface in our studio lab, called “the cockpit.” This tool enables us to create and perform such musical works live.
Rotterdam-born singer-songwriter Tessa Douwstra aka Luwten found her way to the bigger stages in the Netherlands with impeccably crafted, moving songs on the intersection of pop, indie, electronica and R&B. Her latest album Draft (2021) received national praise and won a 3voor12 Award for best album of the year. After that, things only got bigger for Luwten, who never loses her drive to experiment and pushes forward while keeping her art touching to the core.
