Proximity – music that moves with you
Imagine a meadow—say, the Deer Park of the Oranjestein Estate in Oranjewoud. In that meadow stands a unique sculpture, which is also the source of the music you hear.
As you walk toward it, the music changes, and as you walk around it, the sound shifts too: the closer you are, the more intimate the music becomes; farther away, you hear other layers of the musical composition.
Inside the sculpture—called the cockpit—is a musician who, as both composer and performer, brings a new piece to life in real time. During the performances on Friday, June 13, this will be none other than harpist Remy van Kesteren.
> On Saturday and Sunday, singer-songwriter LUWTEN will be both the composer and performer.
Discover this unique performance. Let yourself be carried away.

Remy van Kesteren is an internationally acclaimed Dutch harpist, praised by The New York Times as a “brilliant harpist.” Known for pushing the boundaries of his instrument, he performs worldwide in concert halls, clubs, and festivals—solo, with his band, and with The Analogue Robot Orchestra. Remy is the only musician in the world to play the custom-built 49-string Salvi Réus harp, developed with support from the Nationaal Muziekinstrumentenfonds. His discography includes the genre-blending Tomorrow Eyes (2016), the experimental Shadows (2019), and An Alternative Soundtrack to the Motion Picture… (2020), along with multiple EPs. Beyond music, Remy has collaborated with The National Ballet, Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Dudok De Wit, and artists like Fink. He is also the founder and artistic director of the Dutch Harp Festival.
With Proximity, we present a unique project in which music, space, and technology come together. We compose not only in terms of time, but also for a spatial sculpture specifically designed for the deer park of Oranjestein Estate. In this project with Remy van Kesteren we create new musical material specifically for Proximity, using loops, drones, field recordings, and electronic synths.
By combining sound, space, and interaction, Proximity opens a dialogue between people, our live-performed music, and the environment. The listening experience is shaped by how people perceive their surroundings, through 3D sound and visual elements. To make this possible, we are developing new software and an audio interface in our studio lab, “the cockpit.” This tool allows us to create and perform this kind of musical work live.
